Sustainability
This is a buzzword in the preparedness world that you hear a lot about. What does it mean?
It has many meanings, but the intention is describing ALL THINGS to sustain. It’s food, water, supplies, tools and the ability to keep yourself in the game and generally alive. One of the most important parts of sustainability is to provide your own food. Delicious chemical free and reproducing food.
When you can’t go to the local store, it is nice to go in the yard and harvest your own food. Advanced survivalist will often take home grown produce to the next level by processing and storing their food. You can freeze some of it or learn how to “can” your own food. Canning is a great skill that will stock your emergency shelves with plenty of storable food that has an extended shelf life. We will talk about canning in future blogs.
Growing your own garden is great way to keep your food coming in for a good portion of the year. You can plant in the ground or make raised beds. You can slowly add to your garden as you go. Just make sure you are not growing more food than you can use, process or give away. You don’t want to have to throw away perfectly good food so make sure you only grow what you will use.
There are many things to consider such as Heirloom seeds, non GMO, fertilizers and available irrigation. Developing your own garden system is rewarding and valuable. This is why we offer many products on our site. It may be confusing to see gardening supplies on our site, but we are here to provide the best products to help you SUSTAIN at every level of survival.
